Keeping in mind the ever-increasing population of Surat, planning has been undertaken for facilities including transportation. Under which, keeping road network, public transport and other facilities in the center, the Traffic-BRTS Project Cell of the Municipality has prepared the Revised Comprehensive Mobility Plan 2054.
At present, 108 km. BRTS. Route is operational in the city and the international airport has been provided with city bus and BRTS. Connectivity has been provided. Apart from that, metro train will also start on two routes in the coming days.
Earlier, the Municipality Comprehensive Mobility Plan was prepared in the year 2008. However, after that, projects like Dumas Sea Face Development, Tapi Riverfront, Barrage are being planned in Surat.
Also, work on Dream City, Dedicated Freight Corridor, Outer Ring Road, Bullet Train Project is going on. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has asked for a revision of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan. The agency was entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the plan. The draft report prepared by the consultant on the basis of the survey and information was submitted on May 16.
After this, representatives of the police, SUDA, SVNIT, RTO, GMRCL, NHSRCL, NHAI, SITCO and the railway department were present in the last municipal meeting to discuss and deliberate on it. After extensive discussions on the need for transportation facilities in the city, the revised final report was submitted on September 16. Some amendments were also suggested in it. Key areas like public transport, road network, non-motorized transport, multi-modal integration, freight management, mobility management and policy reforms have been included.
