The 31st Indian Plumbing Conference and Exhibition, organised by the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), concluded in Kolkata with a resounding success, after a nine-year long wait. Held from 13 to 15 November 2025, the three-day event brought together India’s key policymakers, technical experts, urban planners, architects and leading brands in the plumbing and water management sector. This year’s theme, “Sustainable Smart Water Management”, highlighted the urgent need for next-generation water solutions as urban India moves towards dense population, vertical development and increasing climate challenges.

The conference was formally inaugurated by Gurmeet Singh Arora, National President, Indian Plumbing Association; Chandra Shekhar Gupta, National Vice President, IPA; Minesh Shah, National Honorary Secretary, IPA; Abhay Pasari, President, IPA Kolkata Chapter; and Pradeep Chakraborty, Vice Chairman, IPA Kolkata Chapter. The event served as a collaborative knowledge platform where leaders engaged in extensive discussions on India’s water challenges and the role of technology, regulation and skill development in shaping a sustainable future.

Over the three days, the discussions focused on some of the most important topics in India’s water and plumbing landscape. Key sessions included AI- and IoT-enabled real-time monitoring of water supply systems, innovations in wastewater management – wastewater treatment, the growing emphasis on water circularity and discussions on developing water-neutral buildings – Peable Discussions. With India witnessing a surge in high-rise construction, experts also addressed the complexities of plumbing design and installation for tall structures, where safety, pressure management and system efficiency become critical.

A landmark moment of the conference was the release of the revised 2025 edition of the “Water Efficiency and Sanitation Standards for the Built Environment – We Stand India” code. Jointly developed by IPA and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), the updated code sets a new benchmark for water-efficient design, sanitation standards and sustainable plumbing practices. It emphasizes conservation, reuse and resilience – which are critical for cities in India facing water scarcity, rapid urbanization and climate-related stresses. Over 80 leading exhibitors from India and abroad participated in the exhibition running parallel to the conference.

Companies showcased cutting-edge products in plumbing systems, water treatment technology, leak detection, water-saving fixtures, green building materials and smart infrastructure solutions. For developers, architects, MEP consultants and facility managers, the expo presented a comprehensive view of how innovation is shaping the future of building services.

The conference also saw an impressive array of speakers and industry veterans. Prominent names included Milind Deore, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power; Rohit Kakkar, Deputy Advisor, CPHEEO, MOHUA; G. Ashok Kumar, Former Director General (NMCG); Avinash Mishra, Former Advisor, NITI Aayog and Chairman, IPA Water Audit Council; M.K. Sinha, Former Chairman, Central Water Commission; and senior leaders from leading real estate groups like Merlin, Salarpuria, Orbit, Alcove and ITC Hotels. Their insights highlighted the national priority of adopting data-driven water management, strengthening sanitation infrastructure and integrating sustainability into urban development.

Recognizing the exceptional contributions of India’s plumbing and water sector, IPA presented its prestigious Navratna Award and Lifetime Achievement Award to distinguished professionals who have championed innovation, skill development and responsible water management practices.
