Architect, Urban Designer, and Researcher Ar. Prakruti Desai has been honored with the prestigious Young Architect Award 2024 at the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Young Architects Festival (YAF) in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu.
As Senior Associate at Aangan Collaborative LLP and Honorary Secretary of IIA Surat Centre, this recognition celebrates her exceptional contributions to architecture, urban design, and community engagement.
Prakruti’s architectural journey is marked by academic excellence and impactful practice. She holds a Bachelor’s in Architecture and a Master’s in City Design from FOA, SCET, Surat – where she now serves as Visiting Faculty.
She is a recipient of Gold Medals for both degrees and the National NIASA Award for her postgraduate thesis. Her research paper, ‘Challenges of a City with Heritage Core : A Case of Surat,’ was published in an international journal, and she co-authored and presented a paper on ‘Resurrecting Natural Water Systems in Urban Planning Process of India’ at the Conference on Hydro Rationality in South Asia.
Since joining Aangan Collaborative LLP in 2015, Prakruti has been instrumental in several urban design projects, with a strong focus on public architecture.
She played a key role in the redevelopment of Rander Gamtal as a historic urban village and the award-winning Water Plaza-Khel Kund, both of which have garnered national and international acclaim.
Her diverse portfolio includes Shaheed Smarak, Flower Park, market redevelopment projects, and The Vibrant Walkway. She has also won multiple urban design and park design competitions.
Beyond design excellence, the Young Architect Award 2024 acknowledges Prakruti’s dedication to sustainability, academic contributions, and social responsibility.
Through Aangan and IIA Surat Centre, she has organized heritage walks, championed urban awareness, and initiated city betterment programs.
Her active participation in discussions and panels further amplifies her influence within the architectural fraternity. Prakruti’s recognition at YAF underscores her role as a visionary shaping Surat’s urban fabric with innovation and purpose.
