In a move to elevate the standards of on-site material testing, the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has partnered with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI). This partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed amidst the silver jubilee celebrations of CREDAI in New Delhi, witnessed by the Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal.
The MoU aims to enhance the reliability and quality of temporary site testing laboratories that play a pivotal role in civil engineering projects.
By adopting NABL’s recognition scheme, this initiative will ensure the materials used in construction are rigorously tested on-site, enhancing trust in their quality.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, this will contribute to the improvement of construction standards, resulting in safer and more robust structures throughout India.
Temporary site testing labs are essential in large-scale projects exceeding 50,000 sq. ft., where they verify the quality of key materials such as aggregates and concrete directly on the construction site.
NABL’s recognition scheme aims to uphold high standards in these labs, bolstering confidence in the test results, which supports the use of superior materials for durable and strong construction.
The MoU was signed by N. Venkateswaran, CEO of NABL, and Shekar G. Patel, President Elect of CREDAI, alongside dignitaries like Jaxay Shah, Chairman of QCI, Manoj Gaur, Chairman, and Boman Irani, President of CREDAI.
Jaxay Shah highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating, “This MoU between NABL-QCI and CREDAI marks a significant advancement in ensuring the quality and competency of temporary site testing labs.
This partnership will heighten the reliability of construction materials across India, ushering in a new era of improved construction project standards nationwide.”
Venkateswaran emphasized the MoU’s critical role, noting, “Partnering with CREDAI underlines a crucial step towards bolstering reliability in the construction sector. Through the implementation of NABL’s recognition scheme for these laboratories, we are set to enhance the integrity and reliability of the materials used, ensuring top-tier construction quality.”
This collaborative effort signifies a shared commitment to fostering excellence in construction, promising to benefit developers and end-users across the country by setting new benchmarks in quality assurance, the ministry further noted.
